Those who work in food and pharmaceutical warehousing have likely witnessed such a scene: a row of shelves at the entrance of the cold storage, with rust water dripping down from the steel plates on the pillars, forming a pool of yellowish-brown "tears" at the edge of the pallets. The side of the cargo box near the pillar is already marked with scattered rust stains.

This rusty water, though unassuming at first glance, poses a real threat to food and pharmaceutical warehouses. Rusted and peeling paint and iron rust, once attached to product packaging, can affect the appearance at best, and fail hygiene inspections at worst. Many bosses spend their efforts on temperature control and disinfection and sterilization, yet overlook the shelves - this "close-fitting furniture" that interacts with the goods day and night, which is precisely the link in the hygiene chain that is easily compromised.

Why do ordinary shelves have a "short lifespan" in cold storage and food processing workshops? The reason is not difficult to understand. Conventional shelves rely on electrostatic spray-painted coatings for rust prevention. Daily forklift handling and collisions with turnover boxes inevitably leave scratches on the paint surface. Once the steel is exposed, the temperature difference in the cold storage is significant, and condensed moisture will penetrate along the scratches, starting rust from there. The weld seams of columns and beams, where the paint film is relatively thin, often become the earliest "breach" locations. Rust grows slowly, and by the time it is visible to the naked eye, a significant portion of the interior has already been affected.

Replacing traditional shelves with stainless steel ones is aimed at "preventing rust from the root". 304 stainless steel is inherently corrosion-resistant, with a smooth surface that does not absorb moisture or accumulate dirt, making it easy to clean. It is particularly suitable for use in cold storage, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and chemical industries, where high humidity or strict hygiene requirements are present. Although the initial investment may be higher than that for conventional shelves, the long-term peace of mind gained from eliminating the hassle of rust removal, paint repair, and shelf replacement more than compensates for the additional cost.

Shibang shelves offer a complete range of stainless steel products, from light-duty tiered shelves to heavy-duty pallet racks. Like steel shelves, they support adjustable tier heights and free assembly. They also provide on-site measurement and CAD design services. If you are selecting shelves for a cold storage or workshop, it is advisable to have a designer visit the site and take into account factors such as temperature and humidity, as well as access frequency. This is much more reliable than comparing parameters online on your own.

The cleanliness of the warehouse often lies in these overlooked details. Only when the shelves are free from rust can the goods be kept safe.
