Many customers, when inquiring, immediately say "give me a quote for pallet racks" without even verifying the pallet size, forklift entry direction, or single pallet weight they will be using - this is a typical case of treating beam-type pallet racks as a "one-size-fits-all" solution. Shippon reminds you: pallet racks (beam-type racks) are the most "selective in matching" among all storage racks. They must be designed strictly around your pallet parameters in reverse, otherwise it will either waste space or pose safety hazards.

1. A new perspective: Determine the pallets first, then determine the shelves - don't let the shelves accommodate the pallets

The standard solid pallet racks (beam racks) are composed of upright pieces and welded crossbeams. Each layer can accommodate 1 to 2 standard pallets, equipped with safety pins to prevent detachment. However, "standard" refers to the racks being compatible with your pallets, not the other way around:

Beam length = tray long side + reserved clearance: Domestically, commonly used trays are 1200×1000mm or 1100×1100mm. The clear distance inside the beam should be 100~150mm larger than the long side of the tray (with 50~75mm reserved at both ends) to avoid scratching the columns when the forklift places the tray.

Shelf depth = pallet entry depth - 50~100mm: The pallet should neither be completely suspended nor touch the back connecting rod. Pallets with a "川" (chuan) bottom are most suitable for shelf storage.

Layer height = maximum stacking height of goods + 150mm or more: for forklift pickup, overhead operating space is required, and the layer spacing is rounded up to the nearest 50mm or 75mm hole pitch modulus.

These three dimensions are not calculated correctly, and the purchased shelves may have issues such as "the pallets cannot be placed in", "extending too far and prone to bending", or "wasting half a meter of space between layers" - these are the root causes of most people's dissatisfaction with pallet shelves.

II.Structural Value Points of Solid Pallet Racks

100% flexible location picking: The forklift can directly access any pallet location, supporting first-in first-out (FIFO), making it suitable for multiple SKUs and high-frequency inventory in and out.

Adjustable floor height + modularization: The main and auxiliary frames are designed in a row, allowing for the addition of more groups in the later stage; the crossbeam can be adjusted up and down according to the hole spacing, ensuring that the layout can be adjusted according to business changes.

Complete safety accessories: Optional column foot guards, anti-collision bars, back stop beams, cross beams, or steel mesh layers (to prevent small items from falling), and high-position back tension rods to enhance overall stability.

Surface treatment: After acid pickling and phosphating, electrostatic spraying is applied. For cold storage, low-temperature resistant powder or hot-dip galvanized components can be selected.

Single load weight × safety factor: The beam specification is determined based on the heaviest cargo + tray self-weight × 1.2 to 1.4 times, distinguishing between layer load and total column load.

Forklift parameter matching channel: For counterbalanced forklifts, the main channel should be ≥3~3.5m; for reach trucks, it is approximately 2.7~3m; for narrow aisles (VNA), specialized equipment and a 1.6~2m channel are required.

Ground and clear height: Confirm the load-bearing capacity of the floor and whether there are pre-embedded pipelines. High-level racks must be anchored with anchor bolts.

Fire sprinkler system: The total height of the shelves should not obstruct the effective coverage of the sprinkler system. If necessary, a transparent back net should be installed.
