When buying shelves, people often tap the uprights and ask, "Is the steel plate thick enough?" but few bend down to inspect the surface—the seemingly decorative powder coating is actually the key factor determining whether the shelves will rust, peel, or show signs of aging in three to five years. Shibang believes that electrostatic powder coating is not a decorative process but the second line of defense for shelf durability.
Ordinary painting or air spraying results in thin coatings with poor adhesion, which tend to peel off when hit by forklifts or scraped by cartons in warehouses, and exposed areas rust quickly upon moisture exposure. Shibang employs an electrostatic powder coating process:
Using corona discharge to charge epoxy or polyester powder, which is then adsorbed onto the grounded rack workpiece surface, followed by curing at 180°C to 200°C to form a film. This process ensures the coating adheres tightly to the steel (with adhesion reaching Grade 0 to 1 standards), creating a continuous, dense protective film rather than simply "gluing" to the surface.
Resistant to rust, extends shelf life
The cured plastic powder coating exhibits certain resistance to acids, alkalis, and salt spray (verified through salt spray testing as per industry standards), effectively withstanding common warehouse conditions such as moisture and mild corrosive gases. Compared to shelving units that only undergo standard painting in the same environment, it is less prone to early blistering and rust spots.
② Durable and impact-resistant, perfect for everyday use
In warehouse operations, pallet racks are inevitably scratched by cartons, hydraulic trolleys, and forklift attachments. The electrostatic painting layer has sufficient flexibility and thickness (typically 60~80μm), preventing minor scratches from penetrating the base material. The resulting marks are barely noticeable, maintaining a neat appearance and reducing the frequency of refurbishment.
③ Excellent surface texture, easy to clean
The standard colors of Shibang (light gray, royal blue, frosted black, etc.) feature a smooth surface after leveling and curing. Dust and minor oil stains can be easily wiped away with a damp cloth, making it suitable for warehouses in industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, and electronics that have stringent environmental requirements.
The spray coating effect depends on the pre-treatment. Before spraying, Shibang shelves must go through processes such as degreasing, water washing, phosphating/ceramicization to remove oil stains on the steel surface and generate a conversion film, making the powder adhere more firmly. Skip or simplify this step, even the thickest plastic layer will bubble and delaminate early. Shibang has listed pre-processing as a key quality control point to ensure that the bottom of each batch of shelves is "clean and activated".
Room temperature drying universal warehouse: Shibang standard electrostatic spraying is sufficient.
High humidity/coastal areas: It is recommended to strengthen phosphating or directly use a combination of galvanized laminates and spray painted columns, and perform higher anti-corrosion treatment on key load-bearing components.
Cold storage: Shibang provides low-temperature resistant special powder formula and process parameters to prevent coating micro cracking caused by cold and hot cycles.
Checking the quality of spray coating is very simple - lightly scratch the concealed area with a key, the coating is tough and does not explode; Looking at the cut section, the plastic layer is tightly bonded to the steel without any gaps. We take care of the surface treatment of the selected Shibang shelves, so that your shelves can still serve for many years with stability and dignity in the daily handling, bumps, and temperature and humidity changes.
